Not photoshopped…

Everybody has seen some before and after photos that have been worked on with Photoshop. How many times do the after photos look realistic enough for us to think that the model really looks like that? And just as many times gives it the viewer the feeling she (let’s be honest: it’s mainly women thinking like this) has to look like this. Well, even the model in the picture doesn’t look like the model in the picture.

I don’t know if it is because I’ve seen so many photoshopped pictures already or that I’m growing wiser by age (ha!), but even though I still love reading lots of magazines, I find myself looking for the more realistic approach to beauty. I recently read a wonderful article in a German magazine, Cover, about older ladies starting a new career, like modelling at age 63. Those were the ladies with lots of wrinkles, and an amazing sparkle in their eyes. That’s the beauty that’s real, not Photoshopped.

I also came across an article online about Verily Magazine, a magazine that does not alter photos beyond recognition. Their mandate: “Whereas other magazines artificially alter images in Photoshop to achieve the so-called ideal body type or leave a maximum of three wrinkles, Verily never alters the body or face structure of the Verily models.”

And isn’t that the way it should always be?
